Pipex have just provided new sewage facilities for the town of Creux Mahie on the Isle of Guernsey, UK, as part of a larger project to implement the first ever full sewage treatment system for the Isle.
The previous sewage works at Creux Mahie required upgrading, because waste was being deposited at a short sea outfall too near to residential areas, which was causing problems for those who live nearby. The new facilities, fabricated by Pipex, improved this system by directing sewage to a larger pumping station at Belle Greve, which has a long sea outfall, depositing waste away from any public and/or residential area.
This new waste water treatment system consisted of:
1 No. Polypropylene (PP-H) debris chamber, 2M ø x 5.5M deep
1 No. PP-H Storage chamber, 4M ø x 6M deep
1 No. PP-H Pumping station 4M ø x 7M deep
2 No. PP-H Penstock chambers,1.8M ø x 2.8M deep and 1.8M ø x
4.5M deep
1 No. PP-H Emptying point, .9M ø x 1.2M deep
Due to the size of the tanks, and the narrow roads on the island of Guernsey the roads leading into Creux Mahie had to be closed on the morning of each delivery. Thanks to the light weight nature of Pipex Polypropylene chambers, this disruption was kept to a minimum as our tanks were delivered in just 2 loads. If the tanks had been made from traditional materials such as concrete or steel then the closures would have been longer and more disruptive with multiple loads and lorries travelling to Creux Mahie.
